This bracelet is made in a small community workshop, deep in the heart of Mexico. The workshop where they are made is located in Morelos, about an hour south of Cuernavaca, where two thirds of the community has been forced to migrate to the US and areas in northern Mexico due to lack of economic opportunity.
This workshop does more than just provide jobs, it is a full education program for its students. The students learn how to use computers, understand English, master proper communication, and evaluate health care choices for their family. The workshop makes a huge effort to open their eyes to the world and to teach them that they can make a difference in the lives of their own families.
Beyond shipping to us, the artisans also make jewelry to sell in their local community and sell supplies to jewelry-designers. This model can permanently lift whole communities from poverty and provide families with the resources and skills they need to be self sufficient.
Pedro, one of the artisans, was forced to leave his family for two years to provide for his wife and five children because there were no jobs available in Morelos. When he returned, he learned about the workshop, got a stable job with fair wages and has built a new small home for his family.
Your purchase is keeping families, like Pedro's, together.
